आज में गाँधी शांति प्रतिष्ठान के शांत, सुन्दर परिसर में श्री जीतेन्द्र बजाज के लगभग दो तीन वर्षों के प्रयास से संपन्न हुए हिंद स्वराज के नए अनुवाद का विमोचन कार्यक्रम में शामिल होने गया। एक से बढ़कर एक वक्ता थे, आभाव था तो केवल श्रोतायों का। वैसे भी दो साल पहले जब हिंद्स्वराज का शताब्दी वर्ष था तो सुन रहे थे की पुस्तक जो मूल रूप में गाँधी जी ने लिखी थी उसका अनुवाद हो रहा है, लेकिन इतनी देरी से होगा ये उम्मीद नहीं थी। खैर चार साल पहले श्री देवेन्द्र स्वरुप जी भगत सिंह की जनम शताब्दी पर एक पुस्तक निकालने वाले थे, अब चार साल बाद निकली है, इस हिसआब से ये काफी जल्दी ही है,
जरा वक्ताओं की तरफ देखें, श्रीमती राधा भट्ट जानी-मानी गाँधी वादी विचारक है, और वे ही कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षा थी, और संक्षेप में लेकिन दिल से बोली। श्री टी एन चतुर्वेदी भी वक्ता थे, और एक इमानदार छवि के मालिक है, इसलिए जाच रहे थे कार्यक्रम में। संघ के सह सरकार्यवाह दत्ता होस्बोले भी थे, और इस विषय पर पहले भी जालंधर के स्वदेशी जागरण मंच के कार्यक्रम में हिंद स्वराज पर उन्हें सुना है। उनका प्रबोधन बहुत संतुलित था।
श्री अनुपम मिश्र जाने माने गाँधी वादी विचारक है, और उनकी लिखी पुस्तक "आज भी खरे हैं,तालाब अपने आप में बेहतरीन पुस्तक है, आर जनसत्ता के पुराने संपादक बनवारी भी वक्ताओं में थे। तरुण विजय भी बोले, लेकिन मैंने सुना नहीं।
वैसे इस पुस्तक का विमोचन अहमदाबाद में सरसंघ चालक श्री मोहन भागवत और नरेन्द्र मोदी की उपस्थिति में एक माह पूर्व हो चूका है। खैर।
दो साल पहले जब पुस्तक का शताब्दी वर्ष था तो स्वदेशी जागरण मंच की और से जो सो से जियादा कार्यक्रम इस विषेय पर हुए, उनमे १५-२० कार्यक्रमों में मेरा भी रहना हुआ
था। में ये तो मनाता हूँ की पुस्तक बहुत ही पढ़ने लायक है, और ऐसा भी लगता है की बहुत से विद्वानों ने पढ़ीं नहीं होगो, केवल इधर=उधर से लेख पढ़ने के बाद बोला होगा, भाषण तेयार किया होगा, लेकिन ये नया अनुवाद छपने की क्या जरूरत पढ़ी, ये मेरे को समझ नहीं आया, सच में। पुराणी पुस्तक तो सिर्फ १० रुपये में किसी भी कड़ी भंडार से मिल जाती थी, लेकिन इसकी कीमत कम से कम सो रुपये देते हुए थोड़ी तकलीफ हुई, और जब पूरी भूमिका भी पढ़ी तो येही लगा की पुराने अनुवादों में थोडा सा वर्तनी का ही अंतर है, तो भी अभी टिपण्णी करने से अभी डरता हूँ कही अनुवादक विनम्रतावश ऐसा न लिख रहा हो की अंतर thoda है, और ho जियादा। पूरी पुस्तक पढ़ने के बाद ही कुछ लिखूंगा.

हाँ, जो पत्रक साद दिया गया है, वो बहुत अच्छा है, और गाँधी जी का और तोल्स्तोय का जो हिन्दू धरमके बारे में बहस हुए वो पढ़ने लायक है। वैसे भी पुस्तक का कलेवर बहुत अच्छा है, देखने और दिखाने लायक है। तो भी मेरा निवेदन है की हिंद स्वराज को एक क बार नहीं कई बार पढ़ना चाहिए, और आज जो सांस्कृतिक हमला हमारे पर हो रहा है, और जिसके बारे में अच्छे अच्छे लोग भी बोलने से कतराते है, गाँधी जी ने किस हिम्मत के साथ उसके विरुद्ध लिखा, ये पढ़ने लायक है।

New Translation of Hind Swaraj by Sh. Jitendra Bajaj
Today, that is 4th May, in the lush greenery of Gandhi Peace Foundation building in New Delhi, the new translation of Gandhi’s Book Hind Swaraj was discussed, which was published recently. Let me tell you that Mr. Bajaj is burning midnight oil for the last two to three years on this work, and the book was recently made public at a program in Ahmadabad in the presence of Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat ji and CM Narendra Modi. I use to consider this timing out of date, because had been published in the centenary year, its charm would have been many times. But when I take into consideration the other instance, the situation is different. At least four years back Sh. Davendra Swaroop ji was preparing a book on Bhagat Singh at his centenary year, at it has been published recently after four-five years late, so Mr. Bajaj’s two year delay seems ignorable.
Let me come back, here the panel discussion was presided over by eminent Gandhian thinker Smt. Radha Bhatt, and other speakers included sh. TN Chaturvedi, RSS She-sarkarvah Datta Hosbole, who had also presided over a function on this very topic in Jalandhar program, organized by Swadeshi Jagaran Manch. Sh. Anupam Mishra, a known Gandhian and the writer of the famous book “ Even Now tanks are Better”, also participated. Sh. Tarun Vijay ji also participated in the panel discussion but before my arrival he had left the venue. The gathering was not so encouraging, and youth was conspicuous by its absence, but why to mention it as we know, it usually happens in such like serious programmes.
Anyhow I hurriedly purchased the book of Gujarati Hindi translation and more anxiously scanned through the pages of introduction in the hope to find some hot material as to what had been left in the previous translations, due to which this new copy came into being, but could not find anything substantial. It was mentioned in some details that so and so spelling variations were there in the previous translations and how it has been improved here in the new, and that the flow of language which was in the Gujarati version has been restored here, but that was not for which I was eager to know. I was somewhat looking towards the roof as to why I had to spend 100 rupees for a book which is available at rs. 10 at any of the Khadi Bhandars and so much more material is there extra in the form of previous introductions to editions etc. incorporated therewith, and at only Rs. 10 per copy. Why to purchase this new edition. I could not find any reason. But my inner voice says, don’t be in a hurry to jumping to a conclusion, just wait, it may turn out to be the humbleness of the man like Jitender Bajaj that he was using such words like ;spelling variations’ but actually there could be more at the stake.
Anyhow, the brochure which was provided with the invitation card was very useful of course, because the dialogue on Hinduism between Tolstoy and Gandhi ji, which has been given there, is eye opening. Gandhi, who was a youngmen at that time and had not reached the pinnacle of glory at that time, but still arguing in favour of Hinduism with such a confidence, is worth seeing and feeling. Moreover the outlook, colour-scheme and title of the book, as well as the paper is superb - worth seeing and showing, and hence nobody will mind the price paid for it. The contents are yet to be seen, and it is the content that matters and not the outer view, Gandhi used to say.
